Windows 10 is here! Three things you need to know about Zimbra & Windows 10

windows-10-zimbra-001Product News: Windows 10 is here, and comes also for free to update in line for users on Windows 7 or 8.1. To upgrade to Windows 10, you can look at the bottom right corner and it will come back to you.

Zimbra has been working diligently to provide the Support and Documentation for Windows 10 and the new Web Browser Microsoft Edge, and we want to share with you three interesting things about Zimbra Collaboration and Windows 10.

1.- Zimbra Collaboration Briefcase as a Network Share in Windows 10

Zimbra-webdav-win10-002.pngThe Zimbra Collaboration Briefcase uses the WebDAV protocol, and can be connected to Windows 10 like any other network resource. With this method you can have access to all your files from your WebClient and from your computer as well.

You can find the complete Steps in the next Tech Center Article.

2.- Windows Mail app using EAS (Exchange ActiveSync) in Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10

Windows10-mail-zimbra-eas-012.pngWindows 10 comes with a native Mail App, as well as Contacts and Calendar. These tools are really useful for users and IT Administrators as they don’t need to install any other additional software. The Mail, Contacts and Calendar apps support Exchange Activesync, and Zimbra Collaboration provides Exchange ActiveSync on the server side since Zimbra Collaboration 8.5.0, and in Zimbra Collaboration 8.0.9 as beta as well. Only for those who receive ActiveSync as part of their licenses, and not available for FOSS users.

You can find the complete Steps in the next Tech Center Article.

3.- Zimbra Collaboration Web Client in Windows 10 – Microsoft Edge

Zimbra-webclient-windows10-8.7-002.pngOne of the biggest novelties in Windows 10 is Project Spartan, the new Web Browser, Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge is a completely new Web Browser that supports multiple desktop environments, has a minimalist look, as well as features such as Cortana voice commands and annotation for websites.

Microsoft Edge, unfortunately, is not yet supported by Zimbra Collaboration but we are working on this for our next patch. Patch 4, (complete Bugzilla report), Zimbra-webclient-windows10-8.6-003.pngfor Zimbra Collaboration 8.6 to support it, as well in the instructions to fix this in Zimbra Collaboration 8.0.x. In Zimbra Collaboration 8.7 this is set to render properly in Microsoft Edge.

You can find the complete Steps in the next Tech Center Article.

Bonus: Zimbra Connector for Outlook

Zimbra Connector for Outlook has been updated to the release 1316, that now Supports Windows 10 and Office 2013, 32bits and 64 bits. You can find more information in the next Community Thread – https://community.zimbra.com/collaboration/f/1891/p/1140340/1588053

      Hi rainer_d,
We don’t have any public ETA yet. The target is end of August as far as I know, but I will keep you tuned as well as the rest of the Customers/Users using the Blog and the Community.

      Best regards

      Hi Glen,
I’m glad you like the native Windows Mail App steps, really easy to use, and without any special, or complex installation.

      Best regards!

    • rainer_d July 31, 2015 at 10:24 AM #

September would probably good enough for us.
We won’t have time to start testing in August anyway, TBH.

Unless a freak security issue creeps up, of course.

    • Jorge de la Cruz
Jorge de la Cruz July 30, 2015 at 5:09 PM #

      Hi Max,
We are still working on it to certify Outlook 365 on Windows 10 using Zimbra Connector. You can add yourself to the next Bugzilla to keep tuned.

      Best regards

What about Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013 with ZCO plug-in with Windows 10? We’re getting a lot of reports from users (probably those with multiple .PST files) as well as without on crashing upon launch. The error usually is “cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the outlook window.
The set of folders could not be opened. An unexpected error has occured. MAPI was unable to load the information service LSMSSP.DLL. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured.”

      Hi Todd,
If you have troubles with Zimbra Connector and Windows 10, you should open a Support Case where our Engineers can help you better than me. But my advice can be, if you just upgrade to Windows 10, did you install again Microsoft Office? And the Zimbra Connector?
You can also try this new Zimbra Connectors that I’ve uploaded for you, depends of your OS and your Office version, 32bit or 64bits – https://www.dropbox.com/sh/geee0ncw09b4jq7/AACPKE5MRvvJpeURWtctsxCua?dl=0

Be sure you have a Backup of your PST (ZDB) files before install, or reinstall Office or the ZCO.

      Let us know.

Patch is needed! In 8.6 you can’t copy and paste an inline image (webclient)…
    We are 2015, come on!

Jorge de la Cruz August 3, 2015 at 4:46 AM #

      Hi Sam,
Which Web Browser are you trying the copy/paste? This bug is fixed in 8.6 Patch 3, you can read the Release Notes to know more information – https://files.zimbra.com/website/docs/8.6/ZCS_860_Patch3_ReleaseNotes.pdf

      Let us know.

      Best regards

    @Jorge de la Cruz
    any update?

    • Jorge de la Cruz
Jorge de la Cruz August 10, 2015 at 2:51 AM #

      Hi Sam,
So, I’ve tried 3 scenarios using Windows 10 and Google Chrome, plus Zimbra Collaboration 8.6 Patch 3
1.- Open an image, for example in Wikipedia, right click copy image, in the Zimbra window CTRL + V or right-click paste, works.
2.- Open the Windows 10 Explorer and right-click copy an image in the explorer, right click copy image, in the Zimbra window CTRL + V or right-click paste, doesn’t works, the paste is grey.
3.- Open the Windows 10 Explorer and drag the image from the explorer into the Zimbra Web Client Compose email, works.

Si I can see that the problem 2 is the only problem I’m facing, it is the same for you?

      Best regards

    Jorge,

Sender don’t see a problem, but receiver receives something very strange!

ZCO doesn’t seem to want to install on windows 10. The version posted above from the dropbox link has the same issue.

  9. Pierre WIllot September 23, 2015 at 12:27 PM #

    Hi Jorge,

I’m having the same problem here.
    Windows 64, Office 2013 64, but the ZCO 64 won’t install… I tried the last one (ZimbraConnectorOLK_8.6.0.1315_x64).

    Any idea?

    Many thanks!

      Hi Pierre,
you can find more information here – https://community.zimbra.com/collaboration/f/1891/t/1140340 But for now, the best option for you is open a Support Case and ask for the new Zimbra Connector Release, it’s been processing by QA, so if you have time and you can wait a bit, we will release it soon, if not, ask to Support if you can have a copy of the new ZCO if you want to test it before goes GA.
Do you have any error when try to install?
Let’s try to open a Support Case and let us know.

      Best regards

    • Pierre WIllot September 25, 2015 at 5:13 AM #

Many thanks – yes, the install stops for unknown reason:
“Le programme d’installation a été interrompu avant l’installation de Zimbra Connecteur. Vous devez redémarrer le programme d’installation pour essayer à nouveau. Cliquez sur “Fermer” pour quitter”. (inFrench).

      Best regards,
      Pierre

      Hi Pierre,
The best option you had is open a Support Ticket where our engineers will provide you a solution.

What Zimbra version are you using? What Browser? Can you please provide us a screenshot?

    Hello,
My wife installed WIN 10 on her computer. Is ZIMBRA hidden somewhere by Microsoft? If so, where? The only link on her desktop is “Zinbra Desktop” and it says to CREATE a NEW ACCOUNT. So, is all her emails lost!?!

    Thank you kindly,
    Al T.
